Crop an image online, at full resolution, with nothing uploaded

The crop is cut from the original pixels and not from the scaled-down preview on screen, so a 4000 pixel photo cropped to a quarter of its area still gives you a 2000 pixel file. All of it happens in your browser tab: the file is decoded on your own machine, the selected region is copied to a new canvas at source resolution and the download is built from that canvas, with no upload to wait for. PNG, JPG, WebP, GIF and the HEIC photos an iPhone saves all open, and the result saves as PNG or JPG.

Aspect ratios, and which one a platform wants

Leave the ratio on Free and the box takes any shape you drag. Lock it and the box holds its proportions while you resize, which is what you want when a platform is strict. The presets cover the common ones: 1:1 for profile photos, avatars and square product listings; 4:5 for the tallest frame a feed post usually allows; 9:16 for stories, reels and vertical video covers; 16:9 for video thumbnails and slide decks; 3:2 for the native shape of most cameras, and 3:4 and 2:3 for portraits. If the destination asks for exact pixel dimensions rather than a ratio, crop the shape here and then set the numbers in the Image Resizer, which has presets for Amazon, Etsy, eBay and Instagram sizes.

Rotate and flip before you cut

Rotating turns the picture 90 degrees clockwise and flipping mirrors it left to right or top to bottom. Both are applied to the working image before the crop, so the crop box follows the new orientation instead of fighting it. A phone photo that arrives sideways takes one or three taps to sit straight. Mirroring is worth remembering for one case in particular: a photo taken with a front camera reads as a mirror image to everyone except you, and flipping it horizontally puts text and parted hair back the way people expect.

When cropping is the wrong tool

Cropping only removes. It cannot add space at the edges, straighten a tilted horizon by a few degrees, or recover something you framed out. If the subject sits too close to the edge and you need room around it, that is a generation job rather than a crop: the Azurade AI studio can extend a scene or place a cut-out subject on a new background, and the modes page lists those alongside background removal. For the simpler jobs, Blur Photo hides a face or a license plate you would rather not crop around, and Photo to Circle cuts a round avatar with a transparent background instead of a rectangle.

Frequently asked questions

Does cropping reduce the quality of the image?+

Saving as PNG does not: the kept pixels are copied over exactly as they were. Saving as JPG re-encodes at quality 92, which is visually close to the original but technically a second lossy pass. Choose PNG when the picture holds text or screenshots.

What aspect ratios can I lock the crop box to?+

Free for any shape, plus 1:1 for profile pictures and square listings, 4:5 and 3:4 and 2:3 for portrait, 3:2 for the classic camera frame, 16:9 for video thumbnails and 9:16 for stories and reels.

Can I crop to an exact pixel size, like 1080 by 1080?+

Not directly. This tool cuts a region at the source resolution, so the output size depends on how big a box you drag. Crop to the right shape here, then set the exact pixels in the Image Resizer.

Why is my cropped JPG on a white background?+

JPG cannot store transparency, so any transparent area is filled with white before encoding. Pick PNG instead and the transparency is kept.

Can I crop several photos at once?+

No. The cropper works on one picture at a time, because the whole point is placing the box by eye. Load the next file when you are done with the current one.

Is the photo uploaded to a server?+

No, the image is decoded and cut inside your browser tab and the download is generated there, so no copy exists anywhere else.
