Static QR codes, with no redirect in between
Every code this QR code generator makes is static, meaning the link or text is encoded into the pattern itself. A printed code therefore can't be pointed somewhere else later, and nobody counts the scans for you. In return it has no expiry date, carries no watermark and keeps working even if this site, or any other third party, goes away.
Wi-Fi, contact cards and other payloads
The text box takes any string, and phones recognize several conventional formats. A Wi-Fi code is WIFI:T:WPA;S:NetworkName;P:YourPassword;; with both closing semicolons, which iOS and Android read as an offer to join the network. A contact card is a vCard block between BEGIN:VCARD and END:VCARD. Prefix a phone number with tel:, an address with mailto:, a message with sms:. Anything without a recognized prefix is treated as plain text and shown to whoever scans it.
Error correction levels L, M, Q and H
QR codes carry redundant data so a damaged code still reads. Level L restores roughly 7 percent of the pattern, M about 15, Q about 25 and H about 30. Redundancy costs capacity: at level L a code holds nearly 2,900 bytes of data, at level H under 1,300, and the pattern gets denser at every step. M is the sensible default for a screen or a poster. Move to H only when a logo will sit over the middle of the code or it will be printed on something that creases, scuffs or gets wet.
Size, color and printing
The size slider runs from 128 to 1024 pixels and sets the PNG export; the SVG is vector, so it scales to a billboard without going soft. Use PNG for screens and messaging, SVG for anything a printer touches. Two rules decide whether a code scans in the real world: keep the foreground darker than the background, since most scanners give up on an inverted or low-contrast code, and leave the white margin around the pattern alone rather than cropping tight to the edge. For print, a rough guide is one centimeter of code width for every ten centimeters between the code and the reader. A till scanner reading a retail product wants a different symbol altogether, which is what the barcode generator makes, and plenty of packaging carries both.
