A video converter that never uploads your file

The video is read straight off your disk, decoded with the codecs your browser already ships and written back out as MP4, WebM, MP3 or GIF on the same machine, with no account and no copy on anyone's server. The size limit comes from memory, so files over 2 GB are refused and anything past 500 MB on a desktop or 300 MB on a phone shows a warning first.

Why MOV to MP4 usually skips re-encoding

MOV and MP4 are close cousins, both containers built on the same ISO base format, and the video inside an iPhone MOV is normally H.264 or HEVC, which MP4 accepts unchanged. In that case the tracks are copied into the new container without being decoded and compressed again, so a five minute clip converts in seconds and the picture is bit-for-bit what you started with. Re-encoding only kicks in when the source codec has no place in the target format.

Picking between MP4, WebM, MP3 and GIF

MP4 travels everywhere: phones, editors, messengers, presentation software. WebM is the format for embedding on a page, smaller than MP4 at the same quality and played natively by Chrome, Firefox and Edge, though Safari support has historically been patchy. MP3 discards the picture and keeps only the sound. GIF is the odd one out, an image format pretending to be video, with no audio at all and a hard cap here of 15 seconds at 480 pixels wide and 12 frames per second.

When conversion is not the tool you want

Converting a file does not usually make it much smaller, because the frames are what they are. To shrink something for email or a messenger, use the video compressor, which re-encodes at 480p, 720p or 1080p and reports how much it saved. To shorten a clip instead, the video trimmer cuts at keyframes without touching quality. For sound on its own, video to MP3 is the direct route. Footage you haven't shot can be generated from a prompt or a single photo by our AI video models, which are paid.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert MOV to MP4?+

Drop the MOV in, leave the target on MP4, and click Convert. An iPhone MOV normally holds H.264 or HEVC video, which MP4 accepts as it stands, so the tracks are repackaged rather than re-encoded and the job is close to instant even on a long clip.

Which output formats are available?+

Four: MP4, WebM, MP3 for audio on its own, and GIF. There is no AVI, WMV or MOV output. MP4 is the safe default, since every phone, browser and editor reads it.

Why is the GIF capped at 15 seconds?+

GIF stores every frame as its own palette-limited image, so file size grows roughly with length times area. The tool caps a GIF at the first 15 seconds, 480 pixels wide and 12 frames per second, which keeps a typical loop in the low megabytes instead of hundreds.

What about AVI, WMV or FLV files?+

They work, through a different route. The browser cannot decode those containers, so the page loads a WebAssembly build of FFmpeg, roughly 30 MB, the first time it meets one. That download happens once and is then cached, so only the first conversion feels slow.

Is anything uploaded to a server?+

No, decoding and encoding both run in the browser tab. The file you download has no watermark and does not expire.

How big a video can I convert?+

Up to 2 GB, which is where a browser tab runs out of addressable memory. Above 500 MB on a computer, or 300 MB on a phone, the page warns you first: the job may still finish, but it will be slow and can fail on a low-memory device.
